Marantz Nr1711 8k Ultra Hd Av Receiver Updated Review

Marantz knows that not every room can support a huge home theater receiver. That’s why they created the Nr1711. This slimline, 8K-compatible receiver can power up to seven speakers at the same time, yet fits into spaces where a conventional receiver may be too tall.

Marantz Nr1711

Last year’s lineup of Marantz slimline home theater receivers was quite popular with our customers.

2020 brings even more features to the table, including 8K video upscaling, Bluetooth transmission to headphones, and enhanced Audio Return Channel (eARC), which lets you pass full-resolution surround sound signals from your TV to your receiver.

Marantz Nr1711: Powerful & Nuanced Amplification

A high-current discrete power amplifier section produces exceptional sound for movies and music.

Identical power is provided on all channels (50W per channel: 8-ohm, 20Hz – 20kHz, THD: 0.08%, 2ch. drive) with low-impedance driver capability.

Every Marantz product is extensively tuned and tested by Marantz sound masters to ensure the iconic warm, detailed sound is maintained.

Powerful 7-Channel Discrete Amplifier

Featuring a high-current discrete power amplifier section, enjoy the exceptional sound for movies and music.

Identical power on all seven channels at 50W per channel (8-ohm, 20Hz – 20kHz, 0.08% THD, 2ch. drive) with low-impedance drive capability for superb speaker control.

Auto Eco Mode adjusts power output to speakers based on volume level and on-screen eco meter, delivering power consumption reduction in real-time without sacrificing superb Marantz sound.

Immersive Surround Sound Capabilities

The Marantz Nr1711 enables users to transform and upgrade their home cinema experience with its support of multidimensional object-oriented audio formats including Dolby Atmos, Dolby Atmos Height Virtualization Technology, DTS:X, and DTS Virtual:X to create startlingly lifelike cinematic experiences.

The NR1711’s Dolby Atmos Height Virtualization Technology and

DTS:X Virtual give users a 3D listening experience without the need for dedicated height or surround speakers.

Marantz Nr1711 Full Feature

Half-height doesn’t mean half the features or quality. With 7.1 channels, this slimline receiver is compatible with Dolby Atmos and DTS:X formats.

Alternatively, two of the channels can be used for stereo speakers in a second room, while still maintaining 5.1 surround sound in the main zone.

The discrete power amp design and Pure Direct modes mean this Marantz AV receiver also sounds as special as you’d expect from this leading audio brand.

Easy to Set Up & Enjoy

The Marantz Nr1711 features premium loudspeaker terminals with a set of matching cable-labels supplied to ensure easy and correct hook-up.

The included Setup Assistant offers clear, graphical on-screen direction, and the Quick Start Guide ensures optimal setup for any configuration.

Marantz Nr1711 Audio Quality

In terms of its core audio characteristics, the Marantz Nr1711 comes with exactly the same specs we saw in the NR1710 last year so no real surprises to be honest.

The NR1711 has 7 channels of built-in amplification with a rating of 50 watts of power per channel (8 ohm, 20 Hz – 20 kHz, 0.08% THD) which makes this receiver ideal for a small-sized Dolby Atmos 5.2.2 audio setup with the ability to connect up to two subwoofers.

As for the actual audio we find support for the most common formats including Dolby Atmos as well as DTS:X.

Also included are Dolby Surround and DTS Neural:X up-mixing technologies which are capable of remixing mono, stereo, or multi-channel formats into as many speakers as your setup is using.

One feature that was added last year and continues into 2020 is the addition of Dolby Atmos Height Virtualization which is capable of creating overhead effects even if you don’t have any physical speakers in these positions.

Additionally, we get DTS Virtual:X which is the equivalent virtual tech that can simulate surround and overhead effects even if you don’t have any real speakers there.

One thing we should mention is that while Dolby’s tech can work with either Dolby or DTS signals, DTS Virtual:X works only with DTS ones which slightly limits its use.

Final Thoughts

With another yearly release, the Marantz Nr1711 offers everything we found in last year NR1710 with a few additions that can be considered important or not depending on your needs.

But what is certain is that the NR series continue to offer a lot of value in a small package and will certainly find its audience among the people that need something smaller than usual in order to fit in their limited space.

Coming with a wide list of features Marantz thought that since these units would be used in relatively small spaces there is no need for more power output and it’s where we find the biggest difference compared to a fully sized model.

On the downsides the most obvious this year is the loss of two HDMI inputs, including the front one, in order to get a single HDMI 2.1 one.

And if you include the 4K@120Hz debacle that affected all the new 8K AV receivers this year we can say that this new addition leaves a bittersweet taste to all new buyers.

Not much else to note here but we still would like to see a backlit remote being included at some point.
